The Rural Electrification Authority (REA) technically commissioned the Shinengene Grid Intensification Project in Kalumbila District, North-Western Province, on 26 September 2026, following the completion of planned grid extension works.
Implemented under the Force Account Method, the project covers Shinengene and Northern Resettlement under Chief Musele, approximately 30 kilometres from Kalumbilaβs central business district. It involved the construction of about 9.4 kilometres of 33 kV high-voltage line and 21.7 kilometres of 400 V low-voltage network.
The project targets approximately 524 electricity connections for households, public institutions and businesses. The network is intended to serve Shinengene Rural Growth Centre, Wanyinwa Primary School, Kalumbila North Primary School, rural health facilities and surrounding communities.
Once connected, these customers are expected to benefit from improved access to electricity for education, healthcare, household use and income-generating activities. The project forms part of REAβs work to expand electricity access in underserved rural communities.
