The Rural Electrification Authority (REA) has switched on power for the Luela 11kV 2024 Grid Intensification Project (GIP) in Kalulushi District, Copperbelt Province, bringing electricity to the community 21 days earlier than planned.

The K5.78 million project saw the construction of over 11 kilometers of low-voltage (LV) lines and the installation of three new transformers. It is expected to connect about 415 households and businesses, opening doors for better living conditions, business growth, and community development.

REA Regional Manager – Western, Eng. Marshall Mweemba, said the project will bring visible change to the lives of Luela residents.

“For a long time, people here have relied on candles and generators, which are expensive and unreliable. Now, with electricity, families can light their homes and small businesses can grow. Finishing this project ahead of schedule means these benefits start today, not weeks from now,” he said.

With the switch now flipped in Luela, the community is set to experience a wave of new possibilities from better-equipped schools and clinics to thriving small businesses.
