The Government, through the Rural Electrification Authority (REA), has officially launched the updated Rural Electrification Master Plan (REMP 2.0), marking a significant milestone in Zambia’s journey towards universal electricity access.

The launch was officiated by the Minister of Energy, Hon. Makozo Chikote, MP, who underscored the importance of expanding electricity access to rural and underserved communities.

REMP 2.0 provides a clear and strategic roadmap for electrification across the country, combining grid extension with off-grid solutions such as solar energy. The plan strengthens coordination among Government, cooperating partners, and the private sector, while ensuring efficient allocation of resources and investment.

Speaking at the event, Head of the Presidential Delivery Unit, Kusobile Kamwambi, highlighted that energy access is central to Zambia’s development agenda, driving financial inclusion, digital transformation, and industrial growth.

REA Chief Executive Officer, Eng. Alex Mbumba, reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to achieving universal access by 2030, emphasizing a strong focus on execution, last-mile connectivity, and leveraging enhanced planning tools for greater impact.

For communities, REMP 2.0 represents more than a plan it is a pathway to improved livelihoods, better service delivery in schools and health facilities, and increased economic opportunities across rural Zambia.
