Work in progress – Engineers and linesmen working on the 33kV power line stretching at a distance of 1.3km

Through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Rural Electrification Authority (REA) and World Vision Zambia Limited signed on 29th August 2018, the two institutions have commenced collaborating on joint projects. The two institutions have come together to build electricity infrastructure which will provide electricity to Nkeyema Zonal Hospital in Nkeyema district in Western Province.

In this partnership, World Vision Zambia has constructed a hospital in Nkeyema and REA has moved in to facilitate the provision of electricity infrastructure on a cost sharing basis with World Vision Zambia. Once completed, the project will benefit a hospital which has a catchment of about 49,000 people. The project will also connect initial seven (7) staff houses.

According to Project Supervising Engineer Mr. Newton Ndhlovu, works have advanced. “We completed bush clearing, and by end of this week we will have completed pole planting and pole dressing”, Eng. Ndhlovu said.

The project is a mark of collaborations in undertaking sustainable and integrated rural development that the Authority is promoting through partnerships with various other organisations in Zambia.
